Aeroparque Airport Modernization in Buenos Aires

On one hand, the goal is to increase efficiency at the security checkpoint, which reduces passenger waiting times and optimizes the travel experience. According to Martín Eurnekian, CEO of Corporación América Airports (CASA), the controlling company of Aeropuertos Argentina, the plan is "clearly focused on optimizing every stage of the travel experience, in addition to reinforcing the comfort and security standards, vital in today's aviation." During the construction period, the concessionaire has reinforced signage and increased staff assistance to ensure the normality of all airport operations. On the other hand, the improvement in supply access translates into greater fluidity for the commercial and gastronomic establishments within the airport. Representatives of Aeropuertos Argentina emphasized that this investment aligns with the company's vision to position AEP as a modern regional hub. This project focuses on the restructuring of internal passenger flow and a significant expansion of key operational areas. The core of this phase is defined by the scheduled closure of the public walkway on the upper level, an action directly linked to the expansion of the Airport Security Police's X-ray Inspection Point. Continuing with the Comprehensive Works Plan launched by Aeropuertos Argentina for the Jorge Newbery Metropolitan Airport, a critical phase of intervention in the passenger terminal has begun. This sector, crucial for pre-boarding domestic security checks, will be expanded by strategically relocating security equipment, freeing up space to incorporate value-added services for passengers. Background and scope of the project This modernization is not an isolated event, but part of a sustained infrastructure effort that formally began after the concession was awarded and has accelerated in recent years. The current works cover an intervened area of 800 square meters, plus an additional 100 m2 specifically dedicated to improving the queuing area of the PIR (X-ray Inspection Point), aiming to increase operational efficiency during peak traffic hours. The execution involves a re-engineering of user circulation. This operational space optimization not only improves inspection capacity but also enables a new, exclusive access for suppliers near the South Parking Lot. Impact and future perspectives The reorganization is designed to generate a dual benefit. The closure of the walkway on the first level allows the glass partition to be moved inward from the PIR, extending the control area towards the facade overlooking the Río de la Plata.
